double by-pass surgery and diabetes

I'm just asking to see how safe double by pass surgery is. My dad who is 69 years old is going into the Hospital in the next 5 weeks to have this surgery done. Originally the doctors thought that he may only need a stent put in it, however after he had an angiogram done, they found that it was more complicated than that. My dad takes medication for diabetes as he has had it for a couple of years. Will he be okay after the surgery??"

Hi Francesc, I had single bypass surgery last August, I also had 5 Stents (2 failed) implanted in the past 3 years, I am 58 and been Diabetic for 42 years, not knowing your father is he a big man or is he small because if he is small like me he will need a good month to recoup, then a couple months before he can exercise, I was so nauseated the day after my surgery that I couldn't eat (something to do with my Diabetes they said), I didn't start walking till almost 3 days after the surgery, he is lucky you are going to be there to help your mother because my wife was the only person for me and it was severe strain on her, I couldn't get home care and ended up being rushed to the hospital 3 days after being home because I was not ready to go home.

For me it was an ordeal that I wouldn't want put my worst enemy threw. But besides the latest set back if your father has been fine lately he should pull threw okay, remember it is not really urgent if they are waiting 5 weeks to do it
