What is a diabetic seizure?

My name is Jana and I am 48 years old have been diabetic for 35 years and it is one of the most frustrating diseases. My brother who was a year younger than me has had it since he was 3. We have never really had problems healing from sickness or cuts. Low blood sugars are horrible and when I was pregnant the first time i think i had seizures every day every hour. But if you want to know the best thing to get someone out of a seizure is coke. I don't know if it is the carbonation or what but juice and candy does not work fast enough and more chance of you choking on candy. The glucagon shots are wonderful raise your blood sugar within 10 minutes. At least my husband and kids think they are wonderful cause they can give me shot and just come check on me in 10-15 minutes and don't have to battle sitting me up and trying to get me to drink the coke without spilling it everywhere.

Hi Jana and welcome to HealingWell. I honestly don't know if diabetic seizures can cause epilepsy but I don't think they can. However, I hope that your brother is in the care of a neurologist as well as an endocrinologist for his health care.

I know that regular colas have a lot of sugar but it's dangerous giving liquids to someone who is having a seizure. I believe the glucose gels are better as they can be placed on the roof of the mouth.
