When I was having an eye test for new glasses several years ago, the optometrist tested me for glaucoma. I think that was done because of my age (I was about
60.) and the fact that I was diabetic, although not on medication at that time. It was a simple puff of air test and as I said I'm pretty sure optometrists do that on patients of a certain age. When he said my pressure was elevated, he referred me to an ophthalmologist. In that office I had some really in depth tests, several of them, and now I take daily eye drops to control the pressure. I see that specialist every six months.
This is one of the complications that can arise from high blood sugar along with retinopathy which can lead to blindness if not treated.
So, this is also part of the regular exams that I get to do because of my blood sugar.
