I've seen a rheumatologist, optometrist, ophthalmologist (although I learned nothing new there), and a gastroenterologist, in addition to the "regular" doctor who showed me my irregular blood test results. "This points to an underlying disease, but I'm not too worried," she told me.
She felt my stomach and found a lump. I had an ultrasound but they found nothing.
This all started when I kept getting "uveitis," inflammation of both of my eyes. I had it 7 times in a year. Doctor thought it might be lupus. I had diarrhea here and there but besides the uveitis, not really any other symptoms I could think of. I get nauseous a lot.
The rheumatologist found nothing rheumatologically wrong with me. No lupus. Blood tests with her showed I had inflammatory bowel disease.
The gastroenterologist felt my stomach, found nothing. Had an expensive colonoscopy, they found nothing. Dr. told me as long as I was feeling okay, I could avoid having another pricey procedure (an MRI). I asked her "So do I have IBD?" "I wouldn't say that," she responded. "Sometimes tests can be wrong."
I've had blood taken over and over again, pee taken, a scraping of my colon (biopsy?).
I'm currently on Metformin 1000 mg two times a day. My doctor doesn't have me check my blood sugar. I go every 3 months to check my A1C and it's gone down each time I've seen her.
I throw up, on average, once a week. Sometimes it's several times a week, sometimes it's none at all. I'm nauseous a lot and I think it's partly because of the Metformin, and I do try to avoid fried foods to avoid that feeling. Sometimes if I have a large variety of foods I throw up.
At the end of the day, seeing all of these doctors with, frankly, lousy insurance has put my medical bills into the thousands. I think all that's left for me is a "small bowel scope" which I think is the MRI. Which could be thousands of dollars. I have been scoping the Crohn's disease forum, seeing if anyone has a similar story.
