diabetes and polycystic ovaries (PCOS)

Dear All

I have recently,only days ago, been diagnosed with PCOS.  I have also be warned of the link between PCOS and diabetes.  Do you have any information on this?  What is the link?  What should I be careful of? 

I am naive to this conditon and have so much to learnabout it.  Any help appreciated!

Hey Vikki! My name is Lisa Marie and I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was about a freshman or sophomore in high school. My doctor did not really know much about it and didn't really emphasize the kinds of problems that could occur or the importance of taking the medication she prescribed -metformin. Because I couldnt see any problems or changes in my body by taking metformin I didn't take it on a regular basis. Looking back, I realize that the PCOS caused insulin resistance, which then caused an increase of insulin and glucose in my blood. When I had PCOS I didn't feel like anything was wrong with me, and because I didn't know really know what PCOS was or what could happen later on down the road, my PCOS recently turned into Type II diabetes. My current doctor told me that it happened a lot faster than they thought it should or would have, but that doesn't change what happened. Please, please take care of your PCOS so that what happened to me won't happen to you! If your doctor prescribed meds, take them regularly and try to lose some weight (PCOS is connected with obesity)-being overweight can increase insulin resistance. I dont know if all my information here is correct, it's just what I think! So please do your homework and find out from the right sources. If your doctor doesn't really know much about it, find one that does! Take care of yourself! If you ever want to talk about anything, send me a message!
