Welcome skell006. The doctor will order lab tests in which your blood is tested. You might be asked to fast before the test, so you should schedule that lab test the first thing in the morning before you eat.
There are indicators that would make a person suspect he/she is pre-diabetic or diabetic: family history and being overweight. Those factors would probably have the doctor order lab tests for you. However, if the person hasn't had any recent or regular visits to the doctor, there might be symptoms like frequent urination, frequent thirst, vision problems, tingling/pain in the feet. These symptoms might occur after years of untreated high blood sugar, which is why any person who has a family member with diabetes and who is overweight should see a doctor for a check-up that includes lab tests.
Are you speaking about yourself?
