Hi all:

I hope you can help with the following questions:

1. My daughter, 11, is overweight by about 50 pounds. She is extremely tired all the time, falls asleep in the car, on the sofa, etc. Also, she has Acanthosis nigricans. Does this sound like Type 2 pre-diabetes? Is a blood test sufficient to confirm pre-diabetes, or, does she need that glucose test?

2. If my daughter does have pre-d, can it be reversed? I have read that it can. I have been trying to get her to exercise more and try to avoid bad food, but, she has not lost any weight. I am very concerned. Also, can the Acanthosis nigricans be reversed?

Welcome BookRead66. I can give you my thoughts but you know that no one is a doctor here! Your daughter needs to see her doctor and have some lab tests to see what's going on. As you see, there is an association to obesity and diabetes.

Can you write what she eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner? When was the last time she saw her pediatrician? Besides the medical side of this matter, there's also her socialization, school, etc., so I think you need to consider the whole picture.
