Joeyc0726 asked this question in another thread. I believe that changing what a person eats could help bring down the A1c in this case but, as always, there may be certain factors that affect the A1c.
For example, some medications taken on a regular basis can raise blood sugar in anyone like blood pressure meds that have diuretics and steroids (both oral and shots). If you're taking either of those kinds of meds, your doctor should warn you about rising blood sugar and sometimes you may be put on diabetes medication while you're on them if needed.
Otherwise, if this is not the case and the A1c is rising by itself, it can be lowered by cutting down on heavy carbs like potatoes, bread, pasta, cereal, rice, anything with sugar (or honey or maple syrup).
It could be as I mentioned in that other thread that genetics is pushing your blood sugar higher if you have any immediate family with diabetes. Heredity does play into this. It certainly does with me but I have been able to control my diabetes much better than my mother or grandmother because I eat very low carb and have been more active at my age (67) than they were at the same age.
Joey, do you have any relatives with diabetes?
Oh! I just realized you had previously posted about the beer! So, add cutting down on beer too!
