a.m. blood sugar levels still high

my husband was diagnosed in august 2005, he started out on insulin, but have gotten off of the insulin and was managing very well with metformin, however, now his a.m. blood sugar level is running a high, 150-200. any suggestions on what to do, before we have to go back to insulin????

welcome to the club and hope you enjoy participating in the forum and chat rooms.
1)since your husband's sugar levels have suddenly gone up,it would be better to rule out any infection,especially in the urine.

2)Make sure he starts a food diary as that will quickly show up any faulty dietary habits;for example,any high carbohydrate containig foods.

3)Why are you contemplating switching back all of a sudden to insulin.Now there are excellent anti-diabetic drugs out there which you can discuss with the doctor who initially started him off on insulin.Please don't self-medicate! Take your doctor's or an endocrinologist's help! - sharer

Hi Rubyfae,

Im not sure as a type 2 that going back on insulin is all that good a choice. There are many drugs available as Sharer pointed out. Look at the thread in this forum for drugs available to Type 2 people. You'll see all the stuff you can add to metformin. I take metformin, avandia, glipizide and Byetta.

In any event, let your Endo guy know whats happening with his blood sugar and go from there.
