sugar levels too high after cortizone injection with type 2

After a shot today for my shoulder ,I got home and felt really weak in the legs couldn't hardly make it to the bed .checked bs ,300 bp was 90/55.took a nap,bs was 350 bp was 100/67. will this go back down after a while .before bs was 90-135.

(I copied what you wrote in another thread in order to keep it together.)

"I went to the surgon today and got a cortizone injection due to tendonitis and arthuritus in the shoulder,didn't eat yyet ,bp was 118/80 when I got home my leg muscles starting feeling really weak .bearlely could walk to bed .fell asleep. bp was 90/55 pulse 110.woke up sugar was 300.waited about an hour it was 350.took my nightly dosage of glyberide /metformin,hungary but afraid to eat.Wondering if the shot caused this? Will bs come down after a while? I also take victosa .My bs been averaging 90-135.should I be concerned or will it return to normal after the shot wears off?"

Yes, the cortisone shot raises blood sugar very high. Your doctor should have warned you about this especially since you're on diabetes meds. Sometimes they will even adjust your medication to control the spike. If it's just the one shot, it might take a day or two for the blood sugar to come down depending on how big the shot was. If your blood sugar is still this high tonight, you might want to call your doctor's emergency line and ask for advice about your diabetes dosages.

Your blood pressure was really low though. I think you should call you doctor tomorrow and tell him all this. How is it now?

It took me three-four weeks to recover from an injection to a shoulder like that. But, I was warned that this might happen. My blood glucose was completely messed up. I suppose it should be fine after 2-3 weeks, but I kept messing with my blood glucose levels for an extra week and couldn't really get it balanced even after that.

I too have been through the cortisone injection in my shoulder and a spike in blood sugars. Mine only lasted for 2-3 days but the spike was dramatic. Being on insulin made it easy to bring the numbers back within acceptable range. Hope you get some help. It's not a very good doctor if they don't tell you about the side effects, especially for diabetics.
