I've been fairly diligent about
avoiding added sugars and processed carbs. It paid off!
Reviewing the results of my annual blood tests shows glucose at 100 (I don't remember it EVER being lower than 105 even when I ran marathons) and my A1C at 5.4 - both good signs!!
On the other hand, I think I've been avoiding carbs a little TOO much, and consequently not getting enough fiber. I say that because my LDL and total cholesterol went up. Which is confusing since my triglycerides went down a good bit. So much information available about
cholesterol -- trying to figure out what applies to me specifically might require a PhD!! lol

Investigation shows fiber can
- lower blood sugar
- lower cholesterol
- lower weight

That is great news! Yay! I get my fiber from cooked and raw broccoli, cauliflower and other veggies. Your A1c is awsome! Keep on!

Another person with high glucose after hard exercise. Thats me. It sucks. Can thank the adrenal-liver connection for that. Ive read about
this on fitness forums, its a real issue.
The more "couching" I do, the better my glucose. Not fair. I like to move more than most people do.

Glad you are able to get enough fiber from veggies -- I eat lots of veggies and am about
at my limit, just don't think I can eat any more!
I think I will get a fiber supplement that can be mixed into my powdered protein drink (might be a little low on protein, too) -- that way I can kill two birds with one stone and it might be a simple enough answer that I can work it into my regular routine and keep it up for a long period of time.
My protein powder is a sweetish vanilla flavor (why protein) so I think I can put in a tablespoon of cooking chocolate power and have a chocolate-milk like drink!

Hi Astroman. I exercise regularly but have never checked blood sugar after exercise, so no idea if it's increased then. But that would show up in the A1C eventually.....

Blood sugar (and blood pressure) rises during and after exercise and this is perfectly normal. This effect is to give the body energy for the activity. When the exercise or activity stop, both the blood sugar and blood pressure come down - and how quickly both come down is an individual matter. Walking and standing will have higher readings for both and again this is normal. Sitting for awhile will have lower readings.
For blood sugar, what is eaten and how long before you test your blood sugar affects results as well as recent activity. So if you test your blood sugar right after you exercised a lot or jogged or biked, etc., you'll get a higher reading than if you wait a certain amount of time after the activity- and that time again depends on the person.
For blood pressure, recent activity affects the reading but so does how it's taken. When you take your BP, your back should be supported, like against a chair back, feet on the floor and not crossed, arm about
heart level, cuff on the bare arm (not through clothing), not talking. And taking BP right after eating will have higher readings than if you wait an hour or so.
Also, as if the above is not enough!, anxiety/stress/pain can all raise both blood sugar and blood pressure. Yikes.

BP fluctuations can be from certain medications. IE some maoi. Postural drop. Keep hydrated. Kidneys help regulate BP. HT.
