Hi Buena76! Welcome! I hope you're doing well. I can recommend one cookbook/recipe book by Richard Bernstein, MD titled
The Diabetes Diet. Bernstein's first book
The Diabetes Solution also has recipes in the back but most of this book explains diabetes, medications, blood sugar, etc. Bernstein advocates very low carb eating plans which are designed to get blood sugar down to more normal levels.
The key to all this is not to eat "white food" - which actually means no bread, no rice, no potatoes, nothing made with flour or sugar. This is contrary to what the American Diabetes Association suggests. I can attest to this because when I followed the ADA plan suggested by two nutritionists, my blood sugar was very high. I'm only on metformin.
Along with this eating plan, I do walk a lot (when the weather allows it but it's been such a crazy winter!) around town and on the Greenline and through the woods at our local park. I also lift dumbells.
Please read the link in my signature below for a lot of info on blood sugar. I'm glad you found HealingWell and posted here!
