my husband had a terrifing experience tonight. A severe electrical shock feeling in his upper back thighs while he was sleeping. Woke him up and scared the @@@ out of him. He said it felt just like he was hit by elec. current. It even hurt. He has severe diabetis and severe blocked artery disease. Is this somthing other than related to both of these conditions?

I hope you have taken him to the doctor. This forum is for sharing, education and helping people understand and overcome their fears about diabetes. We are not doctors or diagnosticians and can't really help you figure out what is going on with your husband. I hope it's not anything serious and wish you the best. If there is anything we can do to help you with managing his diabetes we will be here for you but we can't really help in this case. Please let us know how it turns out.

I wasn't asking for a diagnosis. I just wanted to know if anyone else with Diabetis has had this experience.

And NO, he hasn't gone to the doctor over this. If he went to the doctor everytime something came up with his diabetis, he would be there everyday. I thought this site was for information and understanding. I must have been mistaken. Sorry to bother you.

Hi Schnapps,

I've gotten to know Jeannie a little whilst being part of this forum and I know for a fact that she was only offering advice from concern, not trying to fob you off or anything!  We are all here to offer support and gain some support.

You are right - if everytime we went to the doctors when we were concerned we'd be there all day, but your husband's symptoms sound scary and painful and that alone should mean that he gets some professional advice about this.  I personally have no experience of what he felt and so cannot say what it could be, but I hope someone else can shed light on this!  I really hope he's feeling better now, and good luck!

Now Im assuming that with the ensuing Neuropathy that happens in the lower extremeties, sudden pain is nothing new to someone with severe diabetes.  HOWEVER, when you combine this with "severe artery disease", I would be scared to death that sudden and severe pain might indicate a blood clot, which could break loose and be fatal.  Knowing that he has these two conditions and that they are "severe" I would think common sense would have told you to see a doctor the very next day!!  nono Sudden severe pain should never be ignored, especially when you have the conditions your husband has. Get him to a doctor and at the very least have them do a sonagram of his legs!
