Hi Wendy:
Your paragraph doesn't make sense. "You were having lows on Lantus, so your Doctor put you on Humalog?"
Humalog is meant to bring your high sugars down. Lantus is to keep your sugars more level through 24 hours. If you are Type 1, you need both Basal(Lantus) and Bolus(Humalog) Insulins.
It sounds like you are taking too much Insulin for the amount of food that you are eating. Or you are exercising too much. You really need to get your Endocrinologist to set you straight on your carbohydrates and amount of Insulin to take for them. I take 1 unit of Insulin to 10 carbs of food. (1:10) The amount of carbs are printed on most packs of food. There are also sites for carbs in foods like an apple, a slice of bread, a banana, and much more. You can print them out or perhaps your Doctor has the booklet at his/her office.
I test shortly after I get up, before I eat a meal and two hours after each, before I go to bed and sometimes just to see that my sugars are okay. Do you do similar testing?
I used to feel nauseous when I was too high or if I got too low, yes. A 6 oz. glass of juice normally brought my sugars back up plus a spoon of peanut butter or a few crackers. Or a coule of spoons of jam with the crackers. Then I'd lie down or sit down for 15 minutes. But then you have to test to make sure that you haven't gone high. Even if you have a bit of a high, it will usually come back to normal.
It takes years to get it right, so don't feel bad about it. Just try your best. Diabetes is a pain and a lot of work.
I'm on a lot of meds too for many diseases/conditions. I know how you feel. Take Care of yourself and Best of Luck to you.
