Hi:
Just began on Byetta one week ago today. The nurse practitioner who set me up with the Byetta knew next to nothing about
Byetta but was
open to information and took notes hopefully to help other patients that may follow. She had told me that Byetta once
opened
does not need to be refrigerated! I had read all the information in the Byetta package which of course says the opposite. I called the 800 number on the Byetta site and a representative told me that Byetta can be stored at room temperature for up to 144 hours (6 days) at a time but cautioned me to not lay it up against ice since this was how I planned to carry it from place to place. Of course the literature does warn not to freeze Byetta.
I also asked the Byetta representative if I ate 6 small meals a day or had one or two snacks in between meals, how long before I could take my evening shot since I may have had a snack three hours earlier than my evening meal . She said that the biggest concern with taking your shot after a meal is low blood glucose levels. I hadn't heard that before but had seen on another site a man who took his morning Byetta shot before his meal and his evening shot after his evening meal. Any thoughts on this.
I have not had any nausea or real loss of appetite or for that matter any weight loss but was told by the nurse practitioner that Byetta does have an accumulative effect so this will possibly come about
but that everyone reacts differently.
The incredible news is that my blood glucose levels are now in the low to mid 80's during the day and I have already reduced my Glyburide from 2.5 mg in the morning to 1.25. I also take 4 mg Avandia 2 times a day.
