Hey Tall Dude
Please don't despair- it's natural to have angry feelings when you get the diagnosis. I lost 50 pounds and was so proud! I went to the doctor for what I thought was a UTI- surprise! You are now a diabetic. It seems that the diabetes was helping me to lose the weight by not letting glucose get to my muscles for energy, so it was running on my stored fat -and dehydrating me - helping my weight to go down! Chances are you have been experiencing the same thing. I was also a good eater- vegetarian, low GI, natural and organic everything-
SUCKs big time! But there is hope. Start to read everyting that you can about your disease. Take ownership of it and take control of it. Start to experiment with the foods you love - testing their effect on your BG levels, exercise to bring your BG numbers down - move more! Post here- we'll answer questions, listen to you rant. Find out what medicine you are on, how it helps to control your BG levels, what side effects it might have. Visit a diabetes educator and dietitian if your health insurance covers it. If not, the United Way, or the American Diabetes Association in your community may sponser free classes to help you learn how to self-manage your disease. With diabetes, you are in control of the outcome, but you have to educate yourself and be proactive so you can get the best care possible.
Good Luck! sandy
