Hi,

  I am a 52 yr old female that was diagnosed in April of this year. I am currently on 500 mg metiformin twice a day.  I have to laugh because looking at the forums I have so many things going on that it's ridiculous. (depression, gerds, diabetes) Anyhow, went to my doctor last Friday for a diabetes followup and bloodwork, and told him of some symptoms I have been experincing in the past month. Now I am set up for a colonoscopy because he thinks with the symptoms I have I may have ulcerative colitius or Crohn's. (Oh and may I add I am also hypothyroid.) It seems that since April of last year my health has gone down hill and it does get overwhelming. I have had the depression since my late 20's and the GERDS in my 40's til present.  I just get so upset because I don't like to voice my problems to family members because I swear they think I am a hypocondriac!  Hopefully I can vent here. Until the colonoscopy I probably will be room jumping between Crohn's and UC to be informed. Anyhow ....Hi! I will be on this forum quite alot!

I know how you feel... Seems like the whole kit n' caboodle starts to go funky all at once! I'm doing diabetes, fibromyalgia, hypothyroid and some other junk, too. I'm also on prozac for chronic depression and to help with the fibro.

You're welcome to grouse away here because we all understand. Something I can tell you about your family that may help. It's possible that they really don't want to hear that you may be ill or have health problems. This would indicate that you could get sick and maybe someday (gulp!) die...!!!! GASP! In their eyes you must stay the same old same old because you are their wife, mom, aunt, sister etc. and for their own security rationale you MUST remain 'fine'.

Basically, this is their problem. It happens a lot in families so you're welcome to vent and get support here and then you will be able to cope better at home. One of the good things about HW is that there are so many members with a wide variety of experiences and you can draw on their know-how to improve your situation. Because we share so many similar problems we can offer different coping mechanisms and for me that's the best part.

Chooky, sorry to hear you are going through all this. It seems when we have one autoimmune disease, we are more prone to others. I am recently diagnosed with diabetes but have been dealing with Crohn's for 24 years. I also have Gerd, Sleep Apnea, Osteoporosis, etc., and take an antidepressant. Crohn's is still my most difficult condition but I am trying to keep the diabetes mild because I know it's progressive and can do more damage in the long run. I hope you don't have IBD, but if you do, the people on the Crohn's and UC boards are a great bunch, always ready to listen and support. The Crohn's board is so busy that I rarely have time to respond, but I do read all the posts. This one doesn't fill up so quickly, and I'm grateful for that. But I welcome you to both boards. (BTW, I am 67 -- for another three weeks or so.)

Hey, Dude!
I'll take modern medicine over polio, smallpox, whooping cough, rabies and diptheria any day! At least they are trying to use the knowledge we have to help us. Beats the heck out of burning noxious herbs to drive the bad vapours away. (LOL!)
