Well this is certainly a challange. Apparently I have a typical diabetic body...... I carry all my weight around my middle. I have really slim legs and arms and no hips really to speak of. I have been surprised a couple of times recently when meeting people and they have asked me "are you a diabetic". These people have always got relatives with diabetes and instantly seem to recognise "the body!!!" One of the first things my new doctor said when I walked into his office was "You are a diabetic - aren't you?" I said - how do you know that? His reply was the shape of my body and my puffed up eyes. My reply was - Oh you mean my ten year pregnancy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I started this journey at the beginning of December, one of my many many goals was to get back into wearing jeans instead of black pants with elastic waists (anyone relate to this????) So having lost a little of my many many pounds - I decided to go on an exploratory shopping trip. To my great surprise, I found a shop that had jeans on sale for $20.00. I thought to myself - this must be an omen. I have problems buying jeans anyway because I am 5 foot 11 inches but decided to try........ I wanted some "groovy" jeans - ones that had style. The usual problem is that if they fit me at the waist then there is all this baggy material at the hips and down the legs. The ladies who were attending the shops were in hysterics at all the jeans I tried on that seemed to fit - but the moment I put my hands in the pockets them came right off - cos I have no hips to keep them up!!!!!!!! Anyway, the end of this story is that I was successful!!!! I found a pair of jeans that fit!!!! Hopefully only for a couple of months but thought the 20 dollar investment was worth it to inspire my self image.
In the same shop I was able to find a bathing suit to fit me - that will make aquafit so much easier. My old swimming suit was not really long enough in the body - They dont seem to make them both wide and tall!!!!! Aquafit was a nightmare cos apart from desperately trying to keep up with everyone else - I was also trying to make sure my boobs didnt pop out!!!! To prevent embarrassment I wore a t-shirt over the swimsuit - Have you ever tried to do "jumping jacks" in the water with huge air bubbles in your t-shirt. It is not fun!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully this will give you all a little smile - I bet a lot of you have been there too!!!!!!!!
