Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your ex's Blood sugar is way out of control, and has been for quite some time. The fact that his "foot falls asleep" means he has neuropathy, the nerves in his foot are dying. This will spread until he has little or no feeling in both feet. The fact that he can feel that prickly sensation, means his blood sugar is out of control and has been for a long time (this doesn't happen overnight or even in a month). The hands thingy could be a number of different things. He could be experiencing liver problems (again sugar related) that are causing "liver spots". He could be having circulation problems which could cause the loss of a hand if left untreated. Again, these are most probably sugar related.
Here's what else will happen if he doesn't get a check up and start using his blood glucose meter. His vision will go blurry and he could suffer partial or permanent loss of vision. He's probably already developed a nice case of retinopathy but since he hasn't been to an eye doctor he doesn't know it yet. The constant getting up to go to the bathroom will increase and get worse so that he constantly has to go during the day. This is a classic sign that your blood sugar is way out of control. If he doesn't take care of this he could suffer kidney damage that puts him on dialysis for the rest of his life or at least until a kidney transplant is found and being 50 and diabetic he won't be high up the transplant list. Now, Im not even going to mention heart attack and stroke, which are obvious side effects, but how about the fact that it will simply kill his sex life with a horrendous case of ED.
All this nice stuff is happening to him as we speak as the classic signs of out of control blood sugar are there. If he doesn't wake up and start treating his disease soon, you will simply watch him self destruct painfully. Not a pretty picture but I hope it answers your questions.
