Hi, guys...I'm here from the Lyme disease board, but I think I'm in desprate need of diabetic info. I'll make my story as fast as I can.
I am an overweight brown ( I never say black or white unless the person is actually the color black, or white, lol) female on my way to the good ole' age of 32, tomorrow. I have Lyme disease, yet, I'm still waitng for more test results.
I was in the ER late last year for the flu, and the nurse just wanted to check my blood sugar...I've never had it checked before...it was exactly 100, and this is a half an hour after eating a mcdonalds breakfast...no worries, I've stopped eating that crap months ago.
A few moths ago, at night, I'll have a few snacks or maybe something sweet...everytime I have that, I get sleepy and kind of foggy. I have hand and toe tingles, but that can also come from the Lyme. I didn't think anything of it until lately...I can not stop peeing(2 times a night, too), and my hands and mouth are super dry. You know that I'm scared for so many reasons.
A. I'm overweight
B. I'm brown, and "African American"...although I've never been to Africa,lol
C. My grandfather had diabetes(dead),My grandmother-my granfathers wife, had bladder cancer and kidney failure(dead),my mother had kidney failure(dead-ugh, I hate saying that word when it relates to her), my uncle had kidney failure ( still living, but if he follows in my mothers footsteps after the kidney transplant, he'll have about 5 more years left before it dies again),My other uncle-my mothers twin is healthy as a horse...what I've noticed about him, is that he and I share the same texture of hair, more corse, whereas my mother, other uncle and grandmother had very fine wavy hair. His hair resembles my diabetic grandfather-meanwhile his daughter was born diabetic, and her twins were born diabetic. Does anyone see a corellation here?
Now as for my fathers side, they are clear of everything. My fathers mother was Hungarian, and his father (my grandparents BTW) was Dominican...no diseases from any of them. My grandmother died because she fell and hit her head-hard, and my grandfather died in the 9-11 attacks.
I've always thought since my uncle and I resemble each other, and that my father was free of everything, I'd be alright, but as I age, I see so much of my grandfather (the diabetic one) in me, and I'm now afraid that I've developed type 2 diabetes...and I think it's bought on by poor diet!
My major issue is that I have Lyme disease, and it brings on so many problems, I wouldn't know if the diabetes was real, or will it leave after I finish my antibiotic regimine.
Should I worry? Are dry mouth, hands, peeing a lot, and weird sores on your scalp signs of diabetes... especially the falling asleep part...at night only...after I've eaten something? Should I just drink a lot of water, vitamin C, have no sugar, and work out to see if anything changes?
I'm sorry for the extra long post, I just need a bit of insight, Thank all of you.
