Hi Shekkie, welcome to the forum. Wow, what a big change in your levels from your change in diet! Give your wife a big hug! Many people wonder the same thing, whether they can get off meds if they can improve their blood sugar readings. There's no definitive answer for every person. It seems your meds have already been reduced. If you lose more weight, get a little more physical exercise and keep to your diet (Is it low carb?), then maybe you'd be reducing the dosage even more.
Maybe off meds if you can keep normal blood sugar levels? This is unknown but I would say that since you know how your body reacted, that is, having high blood sugar, then you know it can go right back up there if you put the weight back on and don't watch what you eat. You will probably always have that hanging over your head but this can be your challenge to see how much and how long you can fend it off. Good luck. And, you might look through the past topics here for food and preparation which would be compatible with a healthy diet to help keep the blood sugar lower. We CAN have tasty food, just like normal people!
