hi my names danni i have epilepsy im 14 and people judge be because of my epilepsy and im fed up of it so im doign a presentation to let everyone know what it about and the facts etc. even my teacher didn't want me to do my school show due to me being epileptic.

Hi there Danni and Welcome to HealingWell!

I am really glad that you have found us and that you are doing something to help remove the stigma away from your epilepsy. Its great news that people are prepared to educate others about their illness since they are usually stigmatised because people dont understand. If you need any help... give me a shout and I will do what I can!

Danni,

You sound like a very smart and brave young lady.  I am glad to hear you are standing up for yourself.  In my opinion, your teacher was way off base.  Please remember, I am not a medical profession, just a 57 year old volunteer who also has epilepsy.  Your parents should be very proud of you.  Do let us know how it goes and please keep posting.

Thank you for all your lovely comments. They mean alot to me, not many people know about my epilepsy just my close friends really. But i think people need to not think that people with epielepsy are stupid and were not like what people say about us.

    i would like to talk with others who undestand. I have uncontroled seizures and im constantly having them.i have real violent ones that leave me all torn up. i recently pulled my arm outta socket and have had to have surgery.I get real worried when i leave my comfort zone because its pretty embarassing having one in public..

ouch thats got to hurt, i havent had a seizure for four years but the last one i had was while i was walking to school on my own. But a lady stoped and helped me so i was lucky. i do still get scared in case that happens again when im on my own and maybe there wont be anyone around to help me. As now to get to my school i walk though all back roads what are very quite. I hope that your seizures will one day not be as uncontroled and i hope that you dont hurt your self either.

I wanted to extend a warm welcome to HealingWell to you.  We are very happy to have you join us.  Gosh, it sounds like you have some pretty tough seizures.  Our moderator, Darren lives on the other side of the world and I just wanted to make sure to acknowledge you.  Darren probably knows as much (maybe more) about seizures than some neurologists.  I think you will enjoy getting to know him and others on this forum.  In no time, you will feel like you are part of a big family.

Not sure I'd have the nerve to do a presentation about my epilepsy if I had it when I was 14, Danni. Don't care who knows now, but most of my school years were spent trying not to be noticed. But you're quite right, the more people who know the facts, the better. So respect is due. (If kids still say that. They did when I was one, at least.) Please let us know how your presentation went.

yeah i havent done it yet, and well up to now i only told my very close friends about my epielepsy but now i just think of it as its not anything to be emabraced about its what we have and we cant do anything about it. So if people dont like it then thats there loss not mine. But thats just how i see it and i never used to see it like that i used to keep myself to myslef, but now i have a lot more confidence.

I am so proud of you. You go girl!  I think you will earn more respect for standing up and taking about it, at least I hope that's the way it goes.  If not, those kids aren't deserving of your friendship.  Please keep us posted.

Thank you so much it means a lot to me to know that if it all goes wrong you guys will all be there. the coments to mean a lot like "I am so proud of you" in my eyes in not doing anything special but in yours i am. and i will tell you what grade i get for it too hopefully an A but i doubt that.

I dont see any reason why you wouldnt get an A for it. You probably know more about it than anyone else in the classroom and I think it takes real guts to do it. You get an A from me, thats for sure!

Danni,

I am so excited about your upcoming presentation.  Do you know the date yet so we can send some prayers and good vibes your way, not that you are going to need any thing.  I think I am really just anxious to see how it goes.  I think you are going to WOW those kids because you are being real and talking about a disease that you have that happens to be very common and most kids would not have the guts to get up there and talk about it. 

I can almost guarantee you that you are not the only student in your school with epilepsy.  So,  you are probably going to be helping others with your presentation.  You are going to be "bringing it out of the closet" so to speak.

Remember, we're here for you no matter how it turns out.

Carla's right. The chances of you being the ONLY one in your school with epilepsy are slim to none. There are bound to be others out there and hopefully you can help improve their lives as well as enriching the knowledge of other students and staff alike.

Lets be epileptic and proud!!!

my speach is going to be in the next 2 weeks and im not the only person in my school with epielpsy one of my close friends have it to. So it will help her out as well as me and everyone in my class. Thank you for your prays i will also be praying that you will all me kept well.

sorry i took so long to get back i was on holiday but thank you so much for all your support about my speach thing it going to be soon im not sure what day but i will tell you all how it goes when i do it. most people now know about my epielepsy because on the 2nd to last day of term i was watching the GCSE drama performances and the flashing lights in the performance made me feel realyl strange and light headed etc so i dont need to care what people think as my drama class didn't say anything and were all worried about me. I have said about one of my other close friends that have epilepsy too shes moving away this month so i hope that she will be fine and that the people at her school will like he for the great person she is.

Danni,

It's great to hear from you.  While I hate that you had a seizure after not having one after so long, weren't you glad to see how supportive your friends were?

Please let us know how your presentation goes.  It is nice to have a young person on the forum who is so brave and gutsy.  You will be a good role model for our other young members, so please keep posting.

i didn't have a serizure as such i just went really dizzy, light headed and faint. and my presentation is on tuesday :S

but today i went on a day out with rays of sunshine (its a childrens wish thing) and i had an amzing time there was one boy who had epielepsy but he had an operation to reduce his seizures but it didn'y work so insted he can feel everything that happens while he is having the seizure. i thought that would be really scary.

Hey Danni,

Im really glad that your talk went well yesterday. Hopefully it goes some way to educating people about epilepsy. If only there were more people like you in the world! Im sorry you didnt get the A that im sure you deserved but as long as you are happy then that is the main thing!
