hi krysten,
i have had seizures since i was 16, though i wasn't diagnosed until i was pregnant with my first child at the age of 22. now i am 42 years old. i have been on keppra and many, many other meds---though none of them have ever worked for me or even work currently for that matter :-( .
i hope that it works for you. i finally chose my neuro med based on the side effects i could get used to the easiest and the least mood problems for me....oh and yeah the one that "appeared to give me the most help with seizure decrease" its topamax.
like you have been told before, finding a great neurologist is sooooo important. get someone who is up on the latest research and truly cares about
you, not someone just signing a prescript
ion and switching you from one drug to another. in today's society, you must be your own dr first and check behind everything they say and do. i know that sounds like a lot but remember you matter most to yourself, they have lots of patients.
listen to friends and family members about
your personality changes. these occur a lot more than we realize or even want to know from our seizures and from our medication side effects. it is EXTREMELY PAINFUL TO HEAR the criticism, but remember who it is coming from and store it away to think about
to try to modify your behavior.
Good Luck
