about
6 weeks ago I had a grand mal seizure while at work. Due to some previous history with hand tremors and a small amount of "spiking" on an EEG I had done several years ago, I was put on an anti-seizure med (topiramate). This weekend I suspect that I had a seizure while I was asleep, but I can't confirm it as I live alone and my dog just stares at me with a blank look when I ask her what happened...
Anyway, the reason I suspect this is because
1) I slept for 15 HOURS! Which is a crazy long time, but not if I was totally worn out from having a seizure. 2) My body felt fatigued, as though I had worked out too hard the day before, or had helped someone move and used muscles that I hadn't used in a while.
3) Part of my lower lip is numb. This is the part that really worries me. I woke up with it numb and it's been two days with no improvement. It's not affecting a big part of my lower lip, maybe just the size of a pencil eraser, but it's very noticeable to me. I've done some research on the Web and it does sound like face numbness can be a side effect of seizure, but it's usually one whole side of the face, not a tiny part.
So, what should I do? I don't even know if I had a seizure, so do I tell my doctor? If I tell my doctor, there's a good chance they'll take my driver's license away. Could they tell me for sure if I had a seizure 2 days ago? Should I just continue on as I have been and hope the feeling returns in my lip and that I don't have any more episodes like this? I don't want to be unsafe and place myself and certainly anyone else in danger, but I also don't want to be an alarmist and freak out when this could just have been a reaction to the medication, or something else along those lines.
Any advise you can offer would be very much appreciated. As I said, I live alone, my family lives in another state, and I don't want to freak people out by talking to them about this. However, I really need some feedback. Thank you.
