Hi this is my 1st post. Ive been diagnosed with simple partials for 2 yrs, at the age of 40 and with a lot of trial and error im currently on 400mg of lamortigine, but the seizures are back with a vengeance, I have gained a lot of weight and can't seem to shift it. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

Hi, I read your post. I was on lamotrigine (Lamictal) a long time ago and it seemed to work quite well for me for a while but then I had to get off of it. I honestly do not remember why. It has been over fifteen years since I have been on it. I do know that when I hit the age of forty my body changed when it came to putting on weight however. I never had a problem before this age with weight gain unless I was on an anti-seizure med that said the side effect specifically could be weight gain. I am guessing from your member name of deb....that you are a female. If you read on the internet about weight gain and age 40 you will be amazed.....your metabolism is slowing down and we have to start exercising even if we never did before to keep that weight where it was before. It is so unfair! It could be partly your meds to blame but it could also partly just be your body starting to slow down....

Oh, I forgot, also I have found my seizures tend to improve with regular exercise and a better diet. I have stopped checking my weight because it seems like the more I exercise, the higher my weight goes????? My husband says I look better and I feel better so I just don't care anymore about the numbers.
