This may sound strange but how do I know what is normal.  Other people lose their train of thought.  Am I doing that like they do, or am I having a type of seizure?  Do I know by how often it happens (rarely)?  Or is their something else?

I wish all my seizures were epileptic.  I know those of you without non-epileptic seizures might not understand.  But I have both kinds.  And even doctors understand epileptic ones better than non-epileptic seizures.  But I do think mine are more epileptic than doctors seem to imply.  Do any of you ever think your doctors are implying things?  Maybe it's just me and they aren't, I don't know.  I can't wait to see mine next month.  I'm hoping for answers.  I think these seizures are Jacksonian.

If you get an EEG or VEEG done that shows seizure activity when you lose your train of thought, you will know for sure.

If I was unsure what a doctor was telling me, I'd ask them for a clarification.  Ask them straight up if they are implying something or not.  You are paying them.  You should at least get the benefit of understanding what they are telling you IMO.

Hi Uhura-  My complex partials have always had a component of losing my train of thought.

Before I had my video EEG, I was sure that all my seizures were epileptic.  During my 4 day test, I had an episode that I thought was typical for a seizure for me.  The technician in the monitoring room next to me saw me the whole time and when it was over I asked her if she saw me have a seizure.  She said it didn't register as any seizure activity on the EEG. 

I was shocked!  Later, when the doctor came into my room to see me, he tried to reassure me.  He said it was either a nonepileptic seizure or perhaps a seizure deep in the temporal lobe that wasn't registering on the EEG. 

So, it isn't so cut and dry.  My doctor was great and didn't make me feel like there was something wrong with me when it didn't show up on the EEG.  Even the tech told me just to tell her (there was a panic button to push) if I had any episodes so that she could keep a close eye on the EEG.  She was reassuring and made me feel like I was being monitored carefully.

If your doctor is honest with you, then you hopefully will know what he really thinks of your seizure episodes.

Strange that it didn't show up as a seizure.  I think everyone loses their train of thought though epilepsy or not.  I don't think it is a seizure for me when that happens.  I really wish it were time for my next appointment.  It's next month before I can get in.  I just have so many questions that keep accumulating and driving me nuts.  I haven't seen this doctor before.  Weird, most people don't look forward to doctors appointments but I seem to see them as possible answers, which  of course means I am disappointed after some of them.  It's hard not to dwell but that is a trait of Asperger's Syndrome (a form of high functioning autism), which I also have.
