My bulldog has Epilepsy

Our family pooch has recently developed sz's.  Our vet said that they are common in bulldogs especially if they are overheated which happens alot in them since their skulls are so thick. 

I've had sz's since I was a baby but I've never seen anyone have a sz.  So when I see her have sz's it's really disturbing.  I think I know somewhat now what my family has always gone through.

My brother's dog has sz's as well and has opted to put his dog on meds.  His dog has gm's though and our dog only has partials at this time.  AED's cause weight gain and anyone that has a bulldog knows that they are definitely fat.  I am torn about putting her on meds.  Any thoughts?

hmmm my god parents boxer mix had seizures, they opted for meds. his dissapeared over time. i'd give the meds a try- see what the reaction is by the pup- side effects and seizure wise. that is, of course if the vet okay's an attempt?!

i know what you mean by never having seen em before. i've never seen a dog have a seizure- but my first dose of what i must look like during a TC, was in hospital during an extended telemetry stay.....the girl next to me went status...freaked me out....i can only imagine what it's like for hubby to watch me.

Hi: On another board I met doggie Dr and he controlled the dogs szs with diet.He is really super nice and has
alot of success with his dogs. HIs diet was a big success too. If you want more information let me know.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this.  My bulldoggy will be happy to know that people care! 

I'm gonna talk to the vet about the meds and the diet.  I don't want her to suffer and hopefully we'll decide soon together with her vet.

Our pets have the same medical problems people do.Siezures,heart problems,diabetes,the list goes on.

OMG sorry to hear about Daisy!!!
I luv her... anyway one of my dogs Jessie started having seizures toward the end of her life. I have to ask my mother what the vet said about it but it was very sad and I remember we would know she had one during the night cause there would be blood on the floor from where she would bang her head RIP jessie :(

It's the saddest thing to see her have one.  The vet so far thinks that because they are predisposed to problems from the heat that they may be febrile sz's.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll not get any worse.  The heat in CA has been making my system go crazy and I know it bothers her too.

hmmmm maybe she can just stay inside most of the day where it is cooler. We got the dogs one of those kiddie pools for hot day for them to go play in. But it is sad and strange to see especially being that we have seizures too. Im off to the greek festival have a great day!
