Hi,

While certain problems with gums have been noted with dilantin, I was wondering if people taking any other anticonvulsants have experienced problems with their teeth or gums. I'm keeping it general so as not to limit possible response.

Thanks. I've bitten the bullet and have an appt at:http://www.drmtoal.com/to000002.html to take care of this neglected problem. I just moved to this area and am finding the medical care and level of awareness so much higher than in the area of the country I previously lived.

I hope you have better luck than I have, it seems to be a forgone conclusion that these things are going to fall out of my mouth.

Over the nine years on meds, all my teeth shifted, fillings have fallen out, pieces of teeth have broken off. I've been on Tegretol, Depakote, Topamax, and some experimental drugs I don't remember.

My dilenton made my gums soft and sometimes they would bleed. But the other drugs didn't do that to me. I let your doctor know about it if I was you. He might be albe to help you. I hope everything works out for you.

I use a water pik with hydrogen peroxide and warm water . It really helps strengthen the gums and clean the '
teeth after brushing and flossing. Dentists and hygenists have been able to see the difference in gums and teeth. Its worth investing in. I also use an electric toothbrush.
