Hi,
My name is Liz and I'm new to the forum. I'm 45 and the mom of two boys. I was diagnosed with simple partial seizures about 4 years ago and after a lot of trial and error have settled on a medication that seems to help quite a bit.
My question is, does anyone have simple partial seizures during the night? These seem to be the most common time when it happens to me and one happened last night that was really bad.
I woke up at 3:00 am and knew right away that something didn't feel right. This is normally the time that these seizures happen too. I got up and went into the bathroom and had the feeling that I was sleep-walking and things didn't seem real.
Then it was if I'd got a huge jolt of adrenaline and my heart started racing, my muscles felt like jelly, I felt sick to my stomach and I could see in the mirror that my face had turned white as a sheet. I knew what was happening but still I was really frightened, especially since I hadn't had one that bad in over a month. It took about 15 minutes or so for it to go away and today I feel really hung over.
Anyway, I mentioned this to my family doctor before (I don't see a neurologist) and she said it was common for this type of seizure to happen in between sleep cycles. I get the feeling that there's not a whole lot to do about it and honestly I don't want to switch meds since I tend to have bad reactions to a lot of seizure meds.
So I guess I'm just looking for a little reassurance because I'm wiped out today and a little afraid of another episode happening tonight. When it's happening I have this horrible feeling that something catastrophic is about to happen. Does that sound silly?
I don't know a whole lot about these types of seizures, even though I've done a google search. Nothing I've found mentions these seizures happening at night so if anyone has any other information I'd appreciate it.
Thanks for listening
