epival and seizures?

allo!

real quick like, i'm generally unmedicated, suffer from partial and tonic seizures, mainly nocturnal (tonic) and it varries from month to month my control and severity. i recently went back to my neuro (whom i hate and distrust! i'm workin on a refferal) anyhoo- she put me back on epival after not being medicated for a while and symptoms creeping up on me too often for my liking. i was leary because i have a sketchy past with meds and dosages etc. but i figured i'd give it a shot.

night onew on epival- partials all through the night. hubby counted 8. next night, tonic seizure, and a bad one at that. lasted aprox 5 min and it was intense to say the least. something happent that NEVER happens with me. anyhoo, night after that, more partials. then nothing for afew days. a week to the day after starting epival again, tonic again, not as intense as the previous one, but bad enough.

night after that- partials etc.

i stopped taking the meds and i've been fine ever since...fine...well you know what i mean. it's not been coming in clusters or as intense and frequent as it did w the meds.

so....yeah....what are your thoughts/experiences with epival and neuros and meds?

i hate em! BUT i am epileptic....so it goes w/o saying being non medicated i lack the control i might be able to have. i still lead a relatively normal life, with the odd bad day where i have to be accompanied by someone .... but even that is too much for me to be bothered with. i'm too independant and other people have lives and jobs to deal with w/o having to babysit me. i wouldn't mind going on meds, if they'd not do this to me every time. if it's not seizures being induced, it's side effects like loss of memory or serious fatigue or trmmors etc.

 

I would see if there are any other neuros around that you could see. In my case I could never stop taking my meds. And if I was having problems with them I always left my neuros know about it. If he is good, he should be able to help you. I know how you feel about taking meds, becuase of the side effects, but I could never do without them. I would be worse off if I didn't take them. I stayed on meds because they were better then having the seizures, even tho they all have side effects. I told my neuros about the problems that the meds were causing me to have and he sometimes tried new kind of meds. To me having seizures is worse the taking meds. I hope everything works out for you.
