Hi guys and gals,
I was reading on the internet eariler this afternoon of clinical trials concerning epilepsy and that people actually get paid for taking part. Its not exacly breaking news for me, but something in the back of my mind clicked (and it hurt! LOL) that there are potentially huge risks with such studies. I know that researchers would take every care as to the participants safety but trying new drugs / mixing new drugs with your current ones / stopping you meds for a period must carry some risk though? What do people think about clinical trials? Should we be doing them or should we be looking into new research methods for trialling anti-epileptic meds? As a student myself, there are many stories of students doing it to raise money to fund their studies. Should we be doing this or is this the wrong reason for doing it?
Thoughts and comments would be gratefully appreciated

I can't imagine why anyone would want to take that risk, I mean... unless you tought you were going to get a new drug that was goign to lessen your seizures. But, personally, I would never do it.

I agree with you iowyth... I just couldn't bring myself to it.. it is a clinical trial 'cause they don't know what will happen and they want to find out... it's just not worth it to me... There is WAY to much at steak when dealing with epilepsy... It all boils down to personal choice, but to me, I think the outcome may be something I couldn't deal with... I couldn't take the risk
