I don't know if I'm posting in the right place or not, but here goes. My son is 12 and had a seizure Tuesday night. He has not had another yet. His MRI and EEG have come back abnormal. They haven't told us anything else at all. We have an appointment with a neurologist on the 14th. I'm not sure what to think. I'm hoping it was a once in a lifetime thing, but yet scared because of the abnormal results.

Hey there forevershanda.. First off, welcome to healing well.. We are very happy to have you. This is a great bunch of people that are more than willing to help out when we can... Did the docs say what type of seizure your son had? Did they prescribe anything? Hang in there, we'll get you through this... Duck

Nothing yet. They don't know anything here. Can't even tell me really about the MRI or EEG other than abnormal. I know I kept hearing a strange sound, honey checked the door and thought it was trick or treaters. I was confused because it certainly didn't sound like knocking, a minute later I heard it again and we went into Ty's room. We found him in his chair but slumped against the wall in a very awkward position with snot and spit all over him. He could not talk, could not move, and did not recognize us at first. We moved him to the bed, a few minutes later, he could mumble. It took probably about 30 minutes for him to fully come around again. He has no memory of the seizure, and is still confused on things that happened earlier that day.

So they just told you that the EEG and MRI was abnormal and wouldn't tell you anything else? The 14th is a long way off, what are you supposed to do until then? Was it the ER that told you this?

So I'm not nuts thinking this is so far away. He was hospitilized for 24 hrs. They tell me it is a good sign that he has not had another seizure and since he hasn't, it is probably a one time deal. We had to follow up with his peds the following day, and they are the ones who gave me the results. And absolutley nothing else as this is not their area of expertise. We must wait until we can see the neurologist, until then, do not leave him unattended. This is driving me nuts, I have no clue what these results mean for him or for us as a family. This is very scary.

Welcome to Healingwell.  I'm sp happy you found us.  It sounds as though your son had some form of tonic clonic (Grand Mal) seizure.  It is definately good that he has not had another one since that night.  Some people may have only one seizure their entire life but still have abnormal EEG's.  He may be one of the lucky ones.  Please keep us posted and let us know if there is any thing we can do for you during this trying time for your family.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 13, I understand how you are feeling.  It is scary when your first seizure happens.  I am 21 and honestly I am grateful for my epilepsy.  Being diagnosed was probably the most profound thing to ever happen to me.  It was hard at first, dealing with them and learning how to live my life normally.  But I want you to know, that even though seizures can be scary, I live a normal and healthy life, and I don't want you to be too concerned about your son.

So how soon after ya'lls first seizure did you have the second?? It's been almost a week and he still hasn't had another. So it looks like a one time thing, but yet we won't know what the abnormal MRIs and EEGs mean until the 14th.

after my first seizure I didn't have another for almost a year.
