Hi Guys and Gals,

Im feelin pretty rubbish at the moment as I had a sz. 2 days ago whilst walking to University. I hit my head on the concrete, scraping the left side of my face and chin as well as breaking 2 teeth (and chipping a 3rd). Im going to see the dentish tomorrow, but I feel pretty rubbish because my epilepsy is starting to get out of control. I was working towards being sz. free for a year so I could get my driving licence back, but everything seems to be going wrong. I'm afraid to even have a bath!

Since drugs dont seem to be working, I was considering combining them with acupuncture. Obviously, I wold talk to my doctor about this as well, but I wondered if any of you guys had experience with acupuncture and what it was like. Is it effective in reducing seizures? Is it painful? How often do you need treatment? What sort of things do you look for in a good acupuncturist?

Your advice would be greatfully appreciated

I don't know anything about acupunture. I have faith in medication but maybe if it is used along with medication. I'm sorry I'm not of any help. I think we would all be interested in how it works for you.

Hang in there. A drug or combination of drugs will most likely be found for you. We all get discouraged from time to time.

Hey Darren, sorry to hear about your seizure... what meds are you on? Have you looked up the interactions with your meds and different holistic treatments? I don't personally don't know of anyone who has used acupuncture for the epilepsy, who has recommended this to you?

Thanks for your replies guys,

I currently take Carbamazipine. My doctor has just upped the does from 600mg bd, to 800mg bd. Where abouts would I look up interactions between meds and holistic therapies Ducky? I saw a TV documentary about acupuncture and its effects on the brain and brain disorders. Being a psychology student, I find such things fascinating anyway, but wondered whether it could work for me?

Hi Gracie's Mom, would you kindly advise me of the acupressure points you use to stop your daughters seizures.

My Daughter, Kate, experiences clusters of seizures, sometimes 30 within an hour, before the Frizium emergency medicine kicks in. Thankfully these seizures are predominantly tonic only, with no clonic stage.

I have tried applying acupressure on her fingerstips but this does not stop the cluster continuing. Any further points you can identify for us would be most appreciated.

I wholeheartedly encourage you to get acupuncture treatment and to see a practicioner of traditional Chinese medicine for your epilepsy. (sorry about your fall and teeth; that sucks)

I get acupuncture for TLE (as well as taking carbatrol, dexedrine, acetazolamide, taurine, a multivitamin and Chinese herbs) at least once a month, sometimes more.
