Is it possible to have an EEG done in my home?

Is it possible to have an EEG done in my home? If anyone knows an agency that does that I would appreciate the info, I have a large family and a baby and dont want to spend the night in a hospital.

Dear Judy,

I am not aware of any agency in our area that does home based EEGs. The patients that we do in our small hometown hospital are done in the hosptial setting by a company that brings their equipment to the hospital.  We do not do overnight monitoring.

Now I have no idea what may be available where you live.  Good question for your physician as he would be the one ordering the test.

I had a 48 hour EEG (an Ambulatory EEG). I had to go to the hospital for about 2-3 hours to get hooked up to the electrodes, but after that I was sent home with them on (they wrap your head with gauze). You are sent home, and you go about your normal activities for the time of the test (either 24, 48 or 72 hours) after the test is done you go back to the hospital (or your doctor) and have the electrodes removed. There are some specific insturctions and things you have to do at home during the test, and tasks you have to perform..etc..but overall its pretty easy.

In the UK we have 24 and 48 hour EEG's done at home and we just go to the hospital and get wired up. The only drag is the box you have attached to you! lol

i had one of those ambulatory ones too, i went to the drs office and got hooked up, then went home with it, all knotted up in my long hair, it was so gross, lol. It was winter, so i pulled my hood up over my head, but it made me look like i was carrying a bomb, all those wires hooked up and a box with blinking lights!

I've learned something new also.  I wasn't aware you could have your EEG done at home. I don't think they do that in my part of the U.S.
