EEG

I just recently had an MRI and thankfully it was normal. I have to go for an sleep deprived EEG and I was just wondering what to expect. I have to stay awake for 24 hrs before and stay free from caffeine.

My 16 year old son has Epilepsy and has had EEGs and sleep deprived EEGS. For a sleep deprived EEG you'll just have to stay awake all night and when you get the test done they'll put a hat on your head kind of like a swimmers hat only with wires on it. They'll put a gel into holes in the hat and they'll hook little wires up to your ears or chest to keep track of your heartbeat. All you'll have to do is just lay there and fall asleep. He/she who is doing the test will tell you to do certan things that can trigger seizures such as breathing deep breats for a period of time and they may flash lights. Its painless and easy. Good luck!
