Hello everyone, I am a 35 years old, male. I had my first seizure when I was 03 years old, after I fell down from a chair and hit my head. My mom took me to a neurologist, he made a lot of EEGs and they were all normals. I don't have any history of epilepsy on my family.
Until the last month I had a life free of seizures..... I never took any medication and a 18 months ago I had another one (tonic clonic seizure). The doctors in Brazil, when I was living, told me that I was fine and that it was caused by stress, that I wasn't epileptic or need any medication. Soooo... a one month ago I had another seizure (TCS) and started to cough out blood! Like three glasses of bright, and intense red blood!
The doctors did a lot of exams in me: MRI, CATscan (lungs and brain), Xray, TB, HIV, EEG, etc..... They said that they found an abnormal activity on my EEG what suggest a primary generalized seizure, what meaning that I will have to take the medication for alll my entire life (They told me this). They put me on Keppra 500 mg, twice a day. I was feeling weak and tired with Keppra and I lost almost 05 kg, but I was doing fine! Playing sports, eating well, taking classes, having a very active social life.... Of course, I stop to drink, i started to be careful with my sleep time, etc... A one week ago, after a party (without drinks, but with a lot of dance!) I had another seizure and I coughed out blood again (The same pattern that I had in the last time!) . The doctors did a lot of exams again and didn't find nothing abnormal. They increase my dose of Keppra for 750 mg, twice a day, but now I am feeling very insecure. Can the medication really control the seizures? How will I know that my seizures are under control? Should I expect a normal life? Is it worst in the beginning? A friend told me that I am taking a small dose of Keppra? Is it true? Well I have a lot of questions, but now I am feeling more comfortable cuz i can share my concerns with people that face the same situation.
