Hello,

I was put on Lamictal and I am concerned about weight gain and hair loss. Has anyone experienced these side effects? Have people felt super tired and/or drugged? Any information would be GREATLY appreciated.

actually an off label use for lamictal is weight loss!

My daughter is on Lamictal and she is doing great weight wise. She has been taking it since 2001 and hasn't had any problem with weight at all. The only problem she has had is when it came out in generic form she starting having seizures with it. So she was put on brand name only. It hasn't made her dopey at all. She is taking tegetol with it so she will take a morning nap because it makes her a little tired but not dopey. The tegretol could be making her tired. When she was on Lamictal alone she didn't nap.

Oh, as far as hair loss. She had some but it was when she was taking Lamictal and Tegretol together so I'm not sure which one caused it. I thought it was Tegretol. She lost a lot of hair at first but she has a lot of hair so it wasn't a big deal and after a while it stopped falling out and everything now is fine. I was a little worried at first but it only lasted a little while, maybe a couple of weeks.
