yes, I know the first advice is to go and see a doctor but for a variety of reasons I need some idea of what this is before consulting a doc.
first some back story:
I've suffered from migraines for 15+ years. They often come on if I eat chocolate on an empty stomach or alcohol on an empty stomach (low blood sugar) or sometimes for no reason. Sometimes I wake up with them.
My migraines are preceeded by an aura - ziggy zaggy visual disturbance that starts as a dot and grows over 15-30minutes to quite large and distracting. During this period, I take 2x paracetamol and the migraine doesn't progress past the visual disturbance and disapears after 10-15 mins. If I don't take anything (eg sometime it happens whilst asleep and I don't wake up until it has gone past the visual disturbance) its a severe headache & nausea. Usually I can just go back to bed in a dark room, sleep for a couple of hours and it goes away.
I get maybe 1 a month, sometimes I may get a couple clustered together in a week if stressed.
From what I've heard I'm incredibly lucky - plenty of people have horrendous migraine expereinces.
On to the possible seizure....
about
4 years ago, I had a weird experience which has occurred a few time since.
my head felt hot and I had the most vivid "de ja vu". At no time did I lose conciosness but was a little dazed. I was able to carry on a conversation to the effect of "wow i feel a bit weird" and I was able to carry on what I was doing though a little confused.
The de ja vu is the wierd part, its a very vivid memory, but its almost de-ja-vu of de-ja-vu, whilst experiencing it I'm able to recognise it as same recollection.... if that makes sense.
Its a strangely pleasant feeling furing the "episode" - i feel warm and actually very happy which is strange! I try and write down what I'm thinking during it but the memories seem too quick, I am still able to write and think during the event, and recently have made the effort to get up and leave the room to find somewhere quiet to try and concentrate onthe de ja vu- writing it down. so I'm not especially impaired during it.
afterwards I feel a little nauseous and confused, for 10 mins or so afterwards, I have trouble recalling what I was thinking about
before it happened - i know where and what I was doing but can't remember what particualar job I was working on.
Its only after doing a first aid course which covered seizures that made me wonder about
it. The de ja vu definately seems to match symptoms online but I'm not losing conciousness and at no point am I unable to continue what I'm doing - thers no spasms or loss of muscle control.
I've had one perhaps 6 months apart since then.
My biggest fear of a diagnosis of eplilepsy would be losing my driving licence. I suffer from IBS and anxiety to such an extent that I'm pretty much ruled by my IBS - I worry about
feeling ill and need a toilet al the time so I avoid situations where I'm not in "control" eg public transport, meetings at work. so to have to rely on others for transport would be devastating, I'd probably never go out.
my net research suggests temporal lobe epilepsy, the more I read the mroe I realsise I have to go and see a doctor :-( will make an appointmetn ASAP
PS I'm 31, Male, non-smoker, Overweight but otherwise healthy
