Bizarre nightime seizure or dream or what please help!

Hi there. I am a new member. I was dx with CP in tl about 10 months ago and have not been stabilized fully yet. Have tried to work but am just starting med leave after period of intense stress and increasing seizures. My question is the past 2 nights I have been tossing and turning and flopping all over the bed either dreaming/having seizures....then waking up .....rolling over and cuddling my husband for comfort and thinking oh no not again....falling asleep----then the cycle repeats itself....I dont know if I am having deja vu....seizures....dreaming....if its from new meds...my neuro just changed meds to Keppra 1000 mg daily also take tegretol and topomax, if anyone has any ideas please let me know......would really apprecieate I feel like I am going insane! Also past 2 days with change in barometric pressure here in Canada (snow/rain storms) have had strings of SP's and aura's and deja vu's like crazy......do you think I should call my neuro? I see him again on the 28th. Thanks for all your help. Take care and good health all!

I have had similar experiences for the past week with the tossing and turning and stuff...pretty much the whole night. My seizures have been worse and more frequent lately because I'm not getting my sleep. I'm not sure if its just insomnia, or if theres something more to it. I have a temp job when I can work it, but I haven't been working because I have to get up at 5am for the job and haven't been getting to sleep until 3am or later. :-( As far as calling your neurologist, well, I guess that depends on how serious it feels. I would, if this is a lot off of normal.

thanks Chris....l think I might call today because this is not normal for my seizure patterns. Interesting to know that someone else has had the same experience (sorry that you are not getting any sleep either though) maybe it has something to do with weather pattern or stress levels? Do you normally have nightime seizure activity if you dont mind me asking because I dont. thanks for all your help and hope you get some rest. I guess it also could be the meds. I take Kappra tegretol and topomax. take care!

Hi I am new to this .... I have been seizure free for many yrs ...Well in Oct 2004 my Dr. wants to take me off my Pheno & put me on The Drug from .... God the side effects are horrbile, I take 100mg in the morn. & 100mg at nite. The Obsessive Worrying/Anxiety Attacks,stress ,my heart pounding can't get a nite sleep I want off,,,this is not living ....God I wish Someone could help me Dr on Vacation his nurse told me to hang in there till he gets back on Monday.Yeah I Lost weight but what a price to Pay ones Mind .....I need Peace Fast. Linda---what med do you mean your doctor put you on that is making you react like this---if you don't mind me asking....? Do you mean the pheno is making you react like this? Hang in there....we are all here to listen and support ....take it one step at a time...it was great that you called doctor,,,did you call your neuro as well? Here anytime to listen....just keep posting!

Hi Sheena,

My simple partials get worse when the weather changes dramatically too. I'm in Calgary! loads of Chinooks makes it really hard. I also have a change in my seizure activity when my hormones fluctuate, usually 10 days or so before my period. Just some thoughts for you! Are you in B.C.?

Hi there...no I am not in BC I am in Ontario ! I am glad to know that the weather affects others (not that other have to suffer!) because at least finally from these forums can get some answers! tongue I do keep a seizure diary so am going to start keeping track of the weather, monthly cycles, food, etc....I can imagine the Chinooks would cause some chaos on your body..do you suffer migraines as well? Hi Sheena, I was on pheno and was fine because I turned 40 he said the pheno will hurt my bones as I get older, he change me to topamax, and now I am having a hard time dealing with anything,on the norm i am a very happy Cherrful carefree person that LOVES LIFE This "Topamax" makes me depressed do these side effects go away...I just want off this stuff . Help!!! LINDA

how do you mean depressed? Are you crying a lot? Are you under a lot of stress otherwise in life? You should talk to neuro, right away about these side effects if this is so "not you" call his office on Monday and let the secretary know you are very uncomfortable with the way you feel...thats what I do and my neuro always calls me right back ....it may be the dosage is too high/low....may be reaction ??? who knows??I am not a doctor so you need to talk to yours. I found with topomax that it affected my concentration level (decreased)  decreased memory even more lol! and marked decrease in my appetite. I have been very depressed but also have had a lot lot lot of stress in my life so this could be a very big factor for me for sure. Hope this is somewhat helpful. Also topomax made me very tired/drowsy at first when I started taking it. Take care and good luck!

I take Keppra now even though I have had surgery. Th length of time between dignosis and surgery allowed kindling and another focus to form on the other side. Either that was the cause or the "day long" Status from my first EMU's negligence did it. That's why I still need one AED after surgery. Just wanted to explain. Anyway, when I first started Keppra, I had a hard time going to sleep. I figured out why though and made an adjustment. If you take an antidepressant at bed time, it will keep you awake. It does me anyway. Keppra has that same effect for me. If I take it too close to bedtime, I will toss and turn and not fall asleep as I should. I changed the time I take my P.M. dose, and it really made a difference tool I take it around 8pm and no later. I go to sleep without a problem now. Depression is very common in Epilepsy from the meds, the seizures, the effect of both on the brain's chemistry, as well as the effect on quality of life. I never have had strange dreams on my AEDS, and I have taken them for nearly 40 years and Keppra since 1999. Also, I wanted to mention that as my seizures worsened before surgery, I started sleep walking and waking in strange places my home. Those were Complex Partials. If you are now doing things in your sleep that you did not use to do, your doc needs to know. If your sleep is disturbed, you are more vulnerable to seizure activity since lack of sleep or disturbed/unrestful sleep is trigger for many. Me too. It is important to get adequate undisturbed sleep each night. Phoebe

Hi Phoebe....thanks for the info---I am still having trouble sleeping...I am going to call the neuro tomorrow...as this is out of character for me since starting the other 2 aed's...also it does feel like (Seizure activity???) but I cant be certain??? Everything else you said sure makes a lot of sense....I am waking up feeling strange ...anxious...restless....I am also having a lot lot of deja vu type aura's which he (neuro) explained as simple partials...we are having snow storm here in Canada which is really throwing my body for a loop also!! thanks again for your help!!Take care tongue

If this should go to a different thread then someone feel free to tell me. I am 61 male. about 1 year ago started having seizures when in and out of twilight state. I describe as a seizure as that is what I have seen online but I basically lose consciousness and my mind is racing about a million miles a minute. Wife says it lasts for about 1 minute. No convulsions or unusual movements. Has happened 8 times in last year. Scheduled to see neurologist in 2 weeks but it happened 1 month ago and then again 3 evenings ago and then just almost happened again today. All when I am just dozing off. I can feel it coming on for about 2-3 seconds before which is just enough time to alert my wife if she is close. Anyone else with similar experience that can offer advice or suggestions?
