Hi,
I want to post an update to my story in the hopes that it might help someone else. I began having a series of neurological symptoms after having surgery in April 2010.
fatigue
nerve pain and weakness in legs
anemia
waking multiple times a night
hearing comes/goes
blurred and double vision
smelling things that aren't there
not being able to differentiate sounds (thinking the dishwasher was the phone ringing)
getting lost
nausea
can't remember something I said or did 5 minutes ago
can't remember how to do simple things like turning on the washing machine
unexplained stopping of menses
heart palpitations
hot flashes/chills (not menopausal)
brainfog
dizziness
can't find words
can't process what someone says
hypersensitive to noise
slurred speech
walk sideways/bump into everything
feels like a bug crawling along my face and hand
family states I'm irritated and moody
waking up a lot at night
I went to the Emory Hospital in Atlanta GA. The docs suspected seizures and admitted me for Video EEG. When it was negative they promptly dismissed me with a diagnosis of PNES and told me to find a psychiatrist. They did not care that I had seen a psychiatrist off and on for life stress (ie divorce) and that he insisted this was not PNES. He sent me out for further evaluation. It was through MUCH research on our own, including HealingWell Boards this I made it to the right doctor and got diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease. Lyme is known as the great imitator. It can invade every part of the body and mimic symptoms of LOTS of diseases: Epilepsy, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psychiatric Disorders, MS, Parkinson's, ALS, and others.
There is a lot of controversy over chronic lyme disease. To begin to understand it better, I suggest watching the movie Under Our Skin.
There is a great group on here for Chronic Lyme if anyone is looking for more information.
