My 1st post, brief history background:
I began taking Dilantin in 1969. Gran Mal seizures after brain surgery as a result of Gun Shot wound to the brain, during an encounter with hostile forces while on a combat mission in Viet Nam.
I stopped Dilantin aprox 4 years later and was seizure free until 1986. Had 2 gran mal seizures and was given a MRI which showed scaring and bleeding causing arterior and vascular malformations..
I 've been on Dilantin since that time. Seizure free for over 25 years. 2 weeks ago
I was given the Generic Version of Dilantin . I became sick using the generic.
Nausea, insomnia, loss of balance, ringing in the ear and overall not feeling well. I have attempted to adjust my dosage from 600 to 500 to 400 mg. per day, but still had the adverse reactions. Tricare (Military Ins.), has changed their regulations and will only pay for the generic version not the brand(Dilantin). I'm back taking the brand version and after 4 days I feel normal again.
My question is, have others had the same negative results when swithing to the generic version. I was paying $0 for brand, now generic is free but brand is costing $125 a month. I need some justification for an appeal to my insurance co. Thank you, C1st20th Americal 11 bde
