As most of you already I am 56 and was diagnosed last year. My seizures are still not under control, but I have confidence in my neurologist at Vanderbilt University Hospital. He has tried me on several medications. I am on 2500 mg. of Keppra per day and 300 mg. of Topamax per day. I went in to see him earlier than my scheduled appointment recently because I have been having a lot more seizures. My sleep schedule is a disaster. I am awake all night and then sleep during the day, sometimes only four or five hours. All of my seizures are during the night when I am struggling to try to get to sleep. It is very stressful. Let me tell you, there is nothing to do in the middle of the night except buy shoes and purses on ebay and that gets me broke pretty fast. Any way, when I saw him last week, he seems to think there may be something going on besides the seizures and I guess I was so blown away by this, I didn't ask too many questions. He is going to admit me again for the in-patient EEG and we all know how long it takes for those rooms to become available and he is going to do some other tests. I have such a hard time with loud music and bright lights, so they are going to add that to the EEG. He has added .5 mg. of Klonopin twice a day to what I am already taking in hopes that it might help me sleep. I have been on it for eight days now. I may be sleeping a little better in the day time, but still wide awake at night, which is absolutely maddening. Who wouldn't have a seizure. Can any of you tell me if .5 mg. is a low dose and do they increase it like they do the other meds? I just want to feel good again.
Take care!
