Freezing With Air-conditioners

Does anyone else have problems freezing when you go into a public building?  I'm sitting here with sweatpants and long sleeves on right now because my dh has been out mowing today, and has the air-conditioner going full force.  When I go to a restaurant or drs. office or any public place I have to take a sweater.  At church they think I'm crazy because I'm always cold.  This winter I'll be freezing to death and they think the heat is turned up too high.  I also have trouble out in this extreme heat then I burn up and can't wait to get back home.  I try to stay in as much as possible and dress warm.

What is it with hubbys freezing us out?lol  We origionaly got the ac downstairs because of the my diabetes.  When the temps are too high I get very sick as in nauseas and dizzy,this isnt helped by meds I am on for it.  I like it set on low,still nice and cool but not freezing by my dh likes it in artic blast mode.  And in the evening after that hot sun is no longer shining on the front of our house I tell him if the night is cool and we have a breeze then turn off the ac and open all the windows!!!  It not only saves on electricity but we get some fresh air and I have an issue about closed in windows now it makes me so claustrophobic!!! He looks at me like i'm crazy if I grab a hoodie to walk to the store in the evening.

 

So every night when I cant take it no more comes the attitude when i say "lets open the windows".  He gets this pouty look on his face and I used to let him have his way and just bundle up but not anymore.  We need to have fresh air anyways and I enjoy a soft cool breeze.  The thing that really sucks is once he gets that thing in the wndow for the season he never wants to take it out!!!  it will be well into september and I am going um hey how bout we lose that thing?  Same for when i want to turn on the heat.  We use space heaters so its easier to put the heat where ya want it but he goes"omggggggg its roasting in here!"  when the room temp is like 60 degree's!!!  I have explained to him that cold equals pain for me specially now that I have fibro and its not that hot in here if the heater is pointed at me.  Problem is I have lost a bunch but he has gained a bunch and now he is overheated.  I understand that from when I was heavier but he has got to understand and deal with me having some heat and I do bundle up to begin with.

I live in central Florida, and wherever I go---the mall, movies, anywhere, I always wear lightweight jeans and bring a cotton long sleeve hoodie. ESPECIALLY when I go grocery shopping---the dairy, meats and frozen food sections are painfully cold!  I know I look odd--most everyone else has on shorts, but I don't care-- cold equals pain, so I dress for it. 

Hi Shannon! I guess I'm on the other side of the fence on this one......the buildings can't be cool enough for me. I seem to have a faulty body thermostat because I am ALWAYS hot. In the winter when everone's bundled up like we live in Alaska, I'm running around in short sleeves and sometimes even shorts and getting the strangest of looks. (LOL) Our winter temperature setting on our house thermostat is never higher than 65 or I'm burning up. My poor wife and daughter dress like Eskimos or nearly climb in the fireplace when it's lit. Our summer electric bill is pretty high because the setting stays at 72. And I HAVE to have fans on at all times, even in the winter, or I might be able to prove that spontaneous human combustion is a REAL phenomenon.

I get cold at home too and we keep it at 77 to 79 degrees. So I do get very cold going out. We went for a movie on Saturday and I was frozen before the movie even started and was hopeing the movie was over soon....I've lived in Michigan and would rather stay in Texas, nothing can beat our nice winter's here in Southern Texas(mind you no snow-woohoo). I keep plenty of tea and hot cocoa in stock so come on down y'all! at least from December till March.

I always go prepared for anything. Cold and hot bother me so I usually dress with a t-shirt (summer tank top) and front zip sweatshirt. Winter in Upper Michigan can be very cold; I hate being outside during the winter. Any ideas for going outdoors during the winter? I would really like to be able to spend time with the kids outside.

Meggie---I grew up in New England, and the only socks/gloves that keep me warm are from LL Bean.

I am from Northern Michigan too. On the years that I am up to cross country skiing, I am not that cold. But like last year, I couldn't do it, so I was cold all of the time. It is so hard here if you don't do outside things in the winter. I heard that snowshoeing is wonderful and so good for you.

I remember long, dreary winters in Connecticut...that steel gray sky, the long, cold winter days..... I always enjoyed sledding--great exercise!!!!! never tried snowshoeing but that sounds great too. Just do a little at a time to get your muscles used to it.

How old are your kids?

I would buy anything from them for warmth, not just gloves and socks. I find their clothing runs on the large side. They have these pima cotton pullover shirts (for all seasons) that are so so soft and they wear so well.

Have you tried Cabela's? They are a really good catalog company also. Have really warm clothes.

Hi Meggie and Karen. I live in the UP of Michigan also, south central area. I have trouble keeping warm myself. I laugh about wanting to move to Arizona because I like the warm weather but I would be freezing there too because of the AC everywhere so I guess I'll stay put for now. I would look pretty silly in a snow suit in Tucson. People already look at me funny when I head into a store while putting on a hoodie in the summer. Lisa

Cabela's, I haven't heard of that company but I will check them out. 

It's nice today but I will be running out later.  First church and then my husband is taken me out .  I will be taking my sweater with me. We usually look pretty funny when we go anywhere together; he is dressed in a short leaved shirt and shorts and I usually have pants and a sweater on.  Oh well, as long as we are having fun!

I'm having computer problems today (mine completely died, I'm on my daughters right now) so I won't be in forum land much this weekend.  I wish everyone a wonderful and hopefully painless weekend.

I found a scarf at Bed Bath and Beyond this winter that has a rice bag in the middle for the neck and one at each end and pockets for your hands. I love BB&B for comfort items. They also had electric quilts that zip to put around you.

 

It's not about fashion anymore it's about comfy and warm.
