Hello everyone. I am new here. And I just wanted to say hi. Um...I haven't been officially diagnosed with Fibromyalgia yet, but I am on the newly FDA approved drug Lyrica. My doctor and I are both pretty sure that this is what it is, but he is hesitant to diagnose me quite yet because I am only 20 years old. He knows that almost everything else has been eliminated, but he wants to wait because it is a lifelong diagnoses.

I just lost my job because 1) I kept calling in because I was in too much pain or I was too exhausted. And when I did come in, I was so tired that i wasn't able to do my best. 2) My mom is the director, and there was a bunch of crap being said, saying that I was being favored because I am the boss's daughter, and blah blah blah.

Anyways. I just wanted to introduce myself. And you all can call me Sherlock if you want, because that was my nickname in high school.

Hi Sherlock and welcome. I'm sorry about the loss of your job. I hope you get a dx soon. It is best to know what you are fighting. In the meantime read as much as you can on here starting with the fibro 101 thread, second thread, it contains a lot of info.

 

There are many people that are able to hold full time jobs with fibro so don't give up. We will try to help you get as comfy as you can with this.

 

Is the lyrica helping??? I have not tried it myself.

 

Some have had good luck with the malic acid/magnesium combo so read the thread on it.

 

Hang in there and we will be here for you.

welcome to the forum. i'm new too.

i'm sorry about losing your job.

sometimes i wonder how i can even handle my job. it's very physically demanding.. but i like to think that keeping it helps me out. i feel i'd be worse off with some desk job. sitting down for long makes me sooo stiff.. it's unreal.

Sorry about your loss! The pain and confusion can be very difficult. I actually had to take a different job after I was diagnosed. I just couldn't keep up with the one I had; it was very demanding and high stress.

For now, I would just concentrate on improving your symptoms. When you are feeling better you can think about the job. Maybe a change of career. You are young, things will get better, hang in there!

Hi and welcome Sherlock-
So sorry that you had to lose your job. I just got fibro 3-4 months ago and have not been able to return to work yet. I'm out on the 10 week FMLA and hope to return part-time. My Dr. does not feel that I will ever work full-time again.
This job may be too much for your body if the diagnosis is going to be fibro. Try working on getting better and the rest will follow.

Welcome to the fibro family, Sherlock!  I'm sure with a little DETECTIVE work, you'll be able to figure this fibro stuff out. tongue   LOL-yeah, I'm a cheeseball.  Anyway, this is a great place to get info, ask questions, and venting is allowed if needed. :-)    I'm sorry about your job.  I, too, ended up being "terminated" (why don't they just call it what it is? FIRED) because of-well, that's such a long story.  And, even though I am known to babble, I'll save you from my rant since you are new.  I heard the loud GASP from y'all when I just said that! confused    LOL-I don't want to scare the poor girl away! tongue

Hi, Sherlock, and welcome to the fibromyalgia forum!  I hope the Lyrica works for you.  It really helps some and for others it does nothing.  But, there are other things that help out. 

 

I'm surprised your doctor doesn't want to diagnose you because of your age.  We have some on here that have had fibro all of their lives...even as very small children!  It usually hits in the 30's and 40's but the operative word here is "usually".  There is nothing about fibro that is standard.  What works for one person might not work for another.  Some have headaches, others don't.  Get the idea?  That's why it is so difficult to diagnose...not necessarily because of age.

 

We have found that moist heat helps a lot.  We use showers and rice bags for the pain.  Some use light massage, yoga, water aerobics, water exercise, and walking.  Walking is very important.  You need to keep moving or  you will be stiff as a board.  In the Fibro 101 thread there is a link to Gentle Stretching Exercises and these really do help to.  The idea is to keep the muscles stretched and flexible so you don't get the tightness and knots that cause the most pain.  Check out that site.  There is a lot of good info there.
