tendor points ???

hi .iv just been looking into the tendor points with fm and yes i do have them but im a bit confussed as on alot of diagrams the points seem to vary soooo my question is do the points have to be in an exact certain place on the elbow or knee etc or is anywhere in that area ??????? hope i make sense .thanks in advance xxxxxxxx

Hi Lasenzagirl and welcome. I think if you have them in the general area of the diagram. I'm glad you joined us. You will learn a lot on here. Be sure to read the fibro 101 thread the second thread on the first page. There is a lot of great info in it.

 

Ask questions, read and even vent when you need to. We will be here for you.

We also have tender points on our backs, though we can't reach them, that is how I was diagnosed. When the doctor pushed on spots on my back, I about jumped off of the table. Wondering what the heck is going on here?

There are also trigger points but they are different than the tenderpoints.

Interesting. When my doctor checked me, she very gently squeezed up and down the outside of my legs and arms. Very gently. When I reported that some of the areas are sore, she said my case is mild because most people she diagnosed hurt everywhere she touched them.

I was wondering; I have a spot between my shoulder blades that hurt and I go to the chiro. to get adjustments every now and then (not often) and when he touches this spot, it kills me. I asked him why it hurts and he said because its out of place. I did get in a car wrect 10 years ago & did get hurt, but I was wondering why it hurts so bad to touch. The dr told me after a few adjustments that I should be ok and not have to go back. Also, he said my hips are out of place and he touches the tender spots in order to adjust me, and this is also painful. That's why I don't go very often, it just seems to make it worse.

 

I do not see that spot on the tender spot check list but was wondering if anyone else had this or if you just think its out of place again?

thank you for the welcomes and also the answers about the tendor points ,no sites iv been on have been very specific when explaining them and i was a bit confussed altho it dont take much tongue in answer to *its_chelle i also have a painfull spot on my back between the shoulder blades confused   i also find that my chins and forearms are tendor all over but not as much as the tendor points .todays been a crap day i rushed round earlier trying to do some housework while the pains had eased (they ease of around lunchtime for a few hours ) but am feeling it now ,iv took my second lyrica and im still in pain but my heads a bit woohoo and feel like someones keep dimming the lights ,very strange .im on a low dose aswell 75mg twice a day so altho a stronger one may help with the pain i hate to think what it would do to my head .thanks again and i wish you all well xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Chelle, please be careful going to the chiro. If they do not understand the fibro body they can do more damage than good. My whole back has tender points and TRPs from MPS. Around my shoulder blades stay sore even between them. I also have sore spots on my hips and pain in the joints. They can't do normal adjustments on our bodies. Sadly, some will keep you coming back for as long as you will come.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with the tender spots thats not listed. I thought I was just 'messed up'.
I haven't been to the chiro in a year. When I used to go, I would hurt for 4-5 days really bad afterwards, which is why I quit going. It never seemed to help me.

 

One more thing about the spots, after my rhuemy dx'd me, some of the spots around my neck were tender to the touch and when I got home, for the next week if felt like he was still pressing on them. It aggravated it I think. Also made me have bad headaches that was radiating from those spots.

 

Just wondering if that was normal?

I wish I had read this yesterday.  I went to the chiropractor (I have been going for years but quit in february, went back only because my right shoulder and arm were going numb), I had to see his newly practicing son.  This man (kid by the looks of him) did not no what he was doing, I am in so much pain and I was only uncomfortable before I went in.  I will not see him again! 

I have been questioning the adjustments long ago and quit going because it seemed to trigger bad headaches and neck pain. I mentioned this to the chiropractor and he said he would do the adjustment a little differently.  I still had problems so I stopped going.

I also have the tender spot between my shoulder blades and asked the chiropractor about it, he had the same response about being out of alignment.  My spot never went away, even after 3 years.  I also have a hard time when he touches my neck.  I should have stopped seeing him after he told me that I did not have FM.  I was diagnosed by a rhumatologist (sorry cant spell today, can barely see).  My options are limited.  Is there another kind of doctor that can help, and what do you look for in his/her credentials?

It's going to be a long day sad .

Wow, Meggie, that's really interesting. Sounds like mine.

I don't know what kind of doc that would help. Maybe there's nothing we can do about it if its part of fibro. I'm tempted to have an MRI done on that spot between my shoulder baldes though. Maybe they could tell me if its out of alignment, or if they see something that could be causing the tenderness.

Anyone have that done on any of the tender spots?

Meggie, I wish you hadn't gone either, sorry. Use moist heat to try to undo some of the damage. I have gotten to the point where I don't want anyone touching my body, it seems like everytime I try something that might help it makes things worse. Especially in my neck.

 

I have both fibro and MPS so I have a lot more sore places on my body than on the fibro tender point chart. With MPS there are knots in the muscles that I can feel.

I see my doctor in a week and I'm going to request an MRI on my shoulder.  I had one done on my neck, I had no problems there.  I don't think they will find anything wrong with my shoulder either but I need to no for sure.  I really want to start working on some light strength training because I have become so week but I don't want to injure myself either. 

This forum has been so wonderful!  Thanks to everyone.  It is so comforting to know that the things I am going through are normal (for FM) and the advice has been great.
