Decompression of the spine??

My mother in law sent me a brochure of a spinal care clinc treating FM patients with spinal decompression, gentle stretching till it decompresses the spine, relieving FM symptoms. Anyone heard of this? Something about state of the art space age technology with some fancy machines. Also some other treatments at their clinic like oxygen therapy, cold water lazer, etc....treatments unknown to me. She urges me to go for evaluation. The clinic has been on our local tv stations for helping FM patients. Any comments?

Kaymac, I know absolutely nothing about this procedure.  I have had back problems since junior high school and I do not want anyone fooling around with my back.  If it didn't work, I know the pain I'd be in.  I do have light massages and they help me a lot.

 

I don't know what you mean by Fibro Institutes.  I tried a google search and found nothing.  Now, if you are talking about the Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Centers, here is a link from our chronic fatigue forum that discusses it.  Hope this helps.

This is a Fibromyalgia Institute specializing in spinal care treatments. It is something similiar to traction but safe and painless they say. I'm checking on the testimonies now, but this has been on our local tv stations and they say people are traveling quite a ways for help. I'll check more into it after I get the brochures and website info.

I don't know if this is similar or not. I recieved an advertisement in the mail from a chiropractor on decompression. I spoke with them on the phone, but it was only a treatment for the lower spine. I have all areas of my spine involved, so it was useless for me. I would definitely do a google search on it and study it from aspects not related to the "sales pitch". Make sure this is not a scam.

I have an inversion table that I really like for my back. The only problem is my feet hurt too much to use it for more than a few minutes at a time. Diane

Oh,

I have seen the infomercial about spinal decompression on television. At this point, I am not willing to fork out the money for the treatment.

I have a sneaky feeling that the procedure is expensive and has to be done more than once.

Many medical specialists claim they heal fibromyalgia, some can make us feel a little better and most are rip offs.

Well, I will wait for a study to be performed in the efficacy of this procedure on people who have fibro. A medical hospital would be one of the places that I prefer for it to be done. In addition, I would not want the study paid for by the companies who make the machine nor the doctors who use it.

A word to the wise. Testimonials are not proof nor are they part of clinical studies. Often times they are actually sales pitches by paid actors! Investigate, evaluate and leave your credit cards at home for any and all visits to these places. If it feels like a sales pitch instead of a doctor's evaluation of your personal condition, run, don't walk, to the nearest exit. If they won't take your insurance because "the treatment is so new and blah, blah, blah" then wait until your insurance does cover it. There are about 10 quacks out there for every legitimate doctor who treats fibro. Your job is to learn to tell the difference.

There are some legitimate natural supplements, exercises and treatments that are outside of the doctor's jurisdiction and you will find plenty of discussion of them as you read back in the past posts. Just don't get ripped off. There! I've said my 2ยข! (Jeannie gets down off of her soap box and wanders away into the fibro fog.)
