Carolyn, are you still having chest pains periodically? If so, insist on some testing. My husband complained of chest pains for two years and for two years our internist told him it was stress. He ended up having a massive heart attack and died at age 51.
When I started chest pains with the costochondritis, I didn't fool around. I wasn't going to have that happen to my children again. My doctor ran an electrocardiogram, and echocardiogram, took an ultrasound of my heart, and had me wear a monitor for 24 hours. My heart is just fine so now I KNOW what is causing the chest pain. It's just too easy for these doctors to fluff things off as "stress". If it isn't stress, you are the one to pay the price...not the doctor. (I still have some anger over this. I think you can tell!)
I don't want to frighten you but, if you still get chest pains, please be checked out. It's better to be safe than sorry.
