hypothyrodism and fibro

Hey everyone,

 I went to doctor today and she said my bloodwork showed hypothyoridism. Does that have anything to do with fibro? She also said my sugar was elavated. These are new things for me. I have been tested for thyroid many times before and always came back fine. I have been feeling sick for several weeks and she said that I showed that I had a reacurrance of mono. I had mono as a teen im now 35. So that my explain why I have felt so bad lately. Also I woke up in pain on my right side from upper ribcage breastbone down to where appendix is. I have had alot of pain. I went to ER yesterday and they ran lots of test and dont think its my appendix and gave me stong pain shots and sent me home. I went to my doc today and they are sending me to have test for gall bladder. Please say prayer that that is the problem so they can fix it. I want to stop hurting. Seems like one thing or the other have been going wrong after the other. Is this the way fibro goes??? Thanks for any reply's and for listening!

I think many have hypothyroidism with fibro.  I know I was tested and it showed I had hypothyroidism.  My doctor checked a second time and I was fine!  Never took any medication, either.  So, he checks it every time I have blood work.

No kiddin??? Never heard of that before. My family on my moms side (she has 5 sisters) all have thyroid problems, one even had to have hers removed. I didn't know it could show up then disappear. Wow, I will ask my doc about that!

Poco, I have been tested for hypothyroid many times, I have so many of the symptoms. It always comes back negative. I suffered for 2 yrs. w/ pain in bone area btw breasts. Sick as a dog, vomiting bile, I finally went to dr. tested for gallbladder, I had a large farm of stones. I've read where the GB is a prob w/ many FMS ppl. Both my G'mas, my DM, and me and I believe we all have/had FMS. The symptoms read like a text book of my family.

A lot of times it does seem like one thing after another, but hopefully the dr can find the cause of your pain and help you.

It seems like a lot of people with fibro also have hypothroidism, but it's not necessarily linked because many with fibro don't have it.

I can say that I used to have it, but found out that it was caused by an iodine deficiency and so I cured it with iodine supplements. I still get it checked regularly and it's been coming back normal for the past couple of years without thyroid meds.

I'm a new member and this is my first post, and this is a subject that has been a problem for me.
about three years ago, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on Synthroid. I had awful side effects (heart palpitations, feeling shaky and weak, anxiety and irritability, increased appetite) right from the start and was miserable. I have only had the TSH count tested, and the original high one was 11, and after I struggled through a few weeks of thyroid med, it went down to 2. Then I went off the med (couldn't take it any more, felt like I was going to have a heart attack or stroke!), and have gone back and forth with the doc aboout it sice then. I keep trying to take the Synthroid, and it almost immediately gives me those reactions, which are symptoms of overdose! I don't believe my TSH has been over 4 at any time after that first test though.
When the blood was drawn for that first count that came back TSH 11, I had just been extremely ill with such a severe case of gastroenteritis that I had to go to hospital for IV fluids two days before. I've always felt that had something to do with that high count. And the only time I had a "normal" count of 2, it was done from blood drawn in the afternoon. The subsequent "high" TSH counts have been from blood drawn after overnight fasting for the purpose of blood sugar and cholesterol counts. I've tried to get my doc to do a blood draw for TSH in the daytime and not after 12 to 14 hours of fasting, but he says don't bother. He keeps trying to get me to take the Synthroid, and every time I try, it makes me feel the same awful way. So now the doc is threatening to send me to an endocrinologist.
Does anyone have any ideas about this? Is it possible for someone who has fibromyalgia (I was diagnosed in 1994 and had had symptoms for 15 years or so before that) to have this high TSH count and yet be okay? I just don't understand why the thyroid hormone is doing that to me if I really need it. ANd I was only taking a half of a 25 mcg (micrograms) dose per day!
