The heart palpitations started about two years ago for me. I felt that "thud" in my chest and checked my pulse in the veins in my neck and realized that my heart was skipping a beat. Of course I went to the doctor and he did an electorocardiogram, echocardiogram, an ultrasound of my heart and had me wear a monitor for 24 hours and my heart is just fine.
I think anxiety plays into it and, when this happens, the anxiety kicks in big time. I don't usually suffer from anxiety attacks because I won't allow them to start to control me. They did for several years and I was on valium for them but I decided that I could handle them. It is fear that causes them and it makes you feel so miserable. The valium was changing my personality, too. So, I decided that, when the anxious feelings would come, I could recognize it and I would "dismiss" the feelings and start focusing on something else. It took some practice but I don't really have anxiety problems now and take no medication for that either.
I hadn't had any palpitations in over a year but, two days ago I had it happen three times in one day. But, since I know my heart is fine I didn't allow the anxiety to rise up in me. It tried to but, again, I "dismissed" those feelings and just got busy doing something in my home. If I dwelled on the feeling and started worrying about my heart, I would be a mess. I know my heart is fine so I just don't worry about it.
I'm glad you are seeing the doctor. You really need to put your mind at ease. Everyone should see their doctor if this happens to rule out heart disease. More women die of that than breast cancer! So, be sure to get checked out. If you see there is not a problem then you can be in control of yourself again. Hope you feel better soon!
