What's wrong with me???

This morning I woke up at 6 AM with back and butt pain that was so bad I almost
couldn't believe it.
My skin "felt" all crackly. The pain was 8 or 9. I couldn't step into the shower. All
I could do was sit, stare, and watch tv.
I have been diagnosed with Fibromyaliga and Myofascial pain. I should be an expert
but here I am. I feel like I don't know what thing.
I do not get help for my pain anymore. I just go to a pain doctor who prescribes
4 Methadone a day and it helps. I take 10 a day ... and of course, could take more.
Xanax helps a lot. I am prescribed 4 a day.
With pain this severe, I think a degree of panic attack comes into the picture.

Hi Pamela,

You said that your doctor prescribed 4 methodone a day but you take 10. Does this mean your meds just run out super early or that your getting the extra 6 a day from another source? If your on that heavy of a dose of meds daily, clearly it isnt working on your pain. I saw on the chronic pain forum that you were thinking about a pain pump,maybe that should be the next step up for you as you are still in so much pain daily. As for the crackling in your skin thats a mystery. The only time I felt someones skin and it had a crackly feel to it was when my ex hubbys grandma was in the hospital dying and her kidneys were shuttting down and there was oxygen being released into other parts of her body and she had lil air bubbles under the surface of her skin and it did indeed have a crackly feel to it. Not unless you meant it in the sense of it being very dry? I hope you find pain relief soon Pamela Neckpain. I know from reading your posts on this and the other forum that your hurting a lot but you do have a wonderful sense of humor on good days and I would hate to see that disapear. Good luck.

I'm sorry Pamela! When we deal daily with the 6-7 pain we figure we've got a handle on it. Then on those days when it tops the chart you suddenly feel very vulnerable and ignorant! It hits home fast and hard.

I agree that you need a different pain med. Have you tried Fentanyl patches? I've been on them fro a couple of years now. There are days when I don't think they help at all, then I stop using them and find out quickly that they do indeed. Of course I have oxycodone for bt pain. Muscle relaxers sometimes help more than pain pills do.

Relax and try to feel better.

I also find that the muscle relaxers help as much if not more on some days. I think that when we are in pain that we tighten up our muscles and that makes it hurt worse. I get really tense when I am hurting bad.

I think also that you need something different Pamela. Have you tried oxycontin or mscontin? I think that they might help you. Maybe you have built up a tolerance to the methadone and need a medication adjustment.

Pamela-be careful methadon builds up in your system and the amount you take one day could be too much the next. I just lost a brother to this same situation 2 weeks ago. PLEASE BE CAREFUL . I agree the meds aren't working for you any more so try to get into the dr. and find something that does.

take the entire amount that I'm prescribed. That sounded really bad! Thank you
for catching it.

DParrot ... Fentanyl sounds good. I had the patches years ago but it was during the
time when the company was having trouble with the patches.

Gettin By ... Yes. I do need something. If I mention my extra pain to my doctor,
he'll say 'PAIN PUMP' and I'm just not ready.

genniefstr: I'm real careful of Methadone. Doctors don't prescribe it too often because
people do have a lot of trouble. I'm very sorry about your brother.

Thank you all. Thank you so much. I can't believe the response. I feel better
now. It's 1:30 and most of the pain came at 6 AM when I first got up.
